See Jane Fall

   Behind white sun on blue sky
   above mountains below snow
   melting from stream to river;

   behind meadow sunburned grass
   covering sloped rocky hills
   surrounding the old play-ground;

   behind metal monkey bars
   where Jane fell and broke a bone--    
   shattered red splitting pink skin;

   behind a classroom window,
   behind a second grade desk,
   I am-- behind in schoolwork.
